The Area

Fethiye

Fethiye is about 20 minutes by car and is a large, bustling town situated at the end of a beautiful bay.

You can find most facilities here including hairdressers, beauty salons, cinemas, banks and excellent medical facilities.

There are also an abundance of restaurants, cafes, bars and shopping opportunities.

There are many things to do during a visit to the Fethiye area but in particular we recommend you:

  • Go shopping for the traditional Turkish souvenirs of carpets, leather, gold, silver and ceramics. Treat yourself to a "designer" handbag!
  • Be pampered - enjoy a manicure, pedicure, or other beauty treatment in one of the many salons.
  • Get really clean in a Turkish bath
  • Take a tour on foot of the historical sites of Fethiye including the amphitheatre, rock tombs and ruined "Crusader" castle
  • Walk part of the Lycian way - considered one of the world's great walks.
  • Discover the Greek village at Kaya Köy - deserted since the 1920s and the location for Louis de Bernieres' book "Birds Without Wings"
  • Visit one of the regular open markets and haggle for a bargain.
  • Take a boat trip - it's the only way to really appreciate the beauty of the Turquoise coast
  • Watch the sun go down over the famous beach at Olu Deniz
  • Go horse riding
  • Visit the archaeological sites at Tlos, Xanthos, Letoon, Patara, Pinara, Dalyan (Rock tombs and Caunos) and Cadianda
  • Wander through the narrow streets of the pretty town of Kalkan
  • Admire the boats in the small sailing town of Göcek
  • Go on a jeep safari or take a quad bike to explore the Turkish countryside
  • Soak up the sun on the 17 kilometre long sandy beach of Patara
  • Explore the gorge at Saklikent - it's the longest in Turkey and was only discovered in the 1970s.
